Breast Augmentation Surgery in Las Vegas
Breast Augmentation Surgery in Las Vegas
Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure aimed at enhancing the size and shape of a woman’s breasts through placement of implants in the breast tissue. If only minor breast increase is required, the surgeon may recommend fat transfer procedure in exceptional cases. According to the ASAPS data, almost 4.5 million breast augmentation surgeries were performed in the US between 1997 and 2012. The numbers have continued to grow every year.
Breast augmentation is clinically called augmentation mammoplasty. The procedure is typically performed for aesthetic reasons, but in some cases, it may also help in breast reconstruction following a mastectomy, or correction of asymmetrical breasts. Dr. Brian J. Parker is an experienced plastic surgeon providing breast augmentation and other procedures to patients in Las Vegas and surrounding communities.
Breast Implant Candidacy
Women may need breast implants to feel more attractive and feminine. Many of the candidates need to improve the proportion of the breast size with the rest of the body. Some may need restoration of breast volume following weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Congenital deformities in one or both breasts may also be corrected with this plastic surgery for some candidates. Women suffering from micromastia, a condition where the breasts did not develop adequately after puberty, may also benefit from breast augmentation surgery.
Procedure
Once the choice of breast implants has been made, and the treatment plan finalized, the procedure will be scheduled. In most cases, breast implant surgery will take about one to two hours, depending on the surgical technique and the placement position of implants.
The procedure is usually performed with the patient under general anesthesia. As a leading cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Parker receives patients from all over Las Vegas, NV and nearby locations for breast augmentation.
Incision Placement
The procedure begins with the placement of the incision in the breast crease, the armpit, the navel, or the areola perimeter. An experienced surgeon will keep the incision placement discreet to ensure that the scars remain inconspicuous. Incision location is determined on a case to case basis, in accordance with the unique breast anatomy and patient’s personal aesthetic needs.
Implant Insertion
Breast implant may be placed directly behind the breast tissue and in front of the pectoral muscle. The other option is to position the implant underneath the pectoral muscle. A surgeon may recommend placement of the implant in front of the chest muscle to reduce discomfort during recovery. Another surgeon may suggest implant placement below the pectoral muscle with an aim to prevent obstruction in future mammograms.
Closing the Incisions
Once the implant has been adjusted into the desired position, the incision will be closed carefully with sutures. The surgeon may press the button for traditional stitches or absorbable sutures. During the early recovery phase, the area around the sutures must be kept clean and disinfected.
Recovery
Most patients will be ready to resume their daily activities or return to the workplace in about 10 to 14 days following the surgery. The lifting of heavy weights and vigorous exercises should be avoided for about four to six weeks.
