Fraxel® Laser Skin Resurfacing treatment

Fraxel laser treatment targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing. Fraxel treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out. Fraxel is effective on fine lines and wrinkles, surface scarring, pigmentation, sun damage and actinic keratosis.

The Consultation

You and our Medical Aesthetician will discuss which area(s) of your skin is of concern. She will examine your skin, discuss appropriate treatments and what kind of results you can expect.

Treatment

When you come in for your treatment, we will apply numbing crème to your desired treatment area and let you rest for about an hour. After you are numb, we will apply cold air to the treatment area and we will begin the treatment. Treatment time varies depending on what area(s) is being treated.

After Treatment

After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours. In order to protect your valuable skin, we recommend that you wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, avoid direct sun exposure for at least 3 months after your last treatment, and wear a wide-brimmed hat when you're in the sun.

You will begin to feel the difference in your skin, as it gradually becomes softer, smoother, look brighter and leave you with a more even skin tone. Over the next 3-6 months, you will continue to show improvement as your skin will continue to create new collagen. Your results can last with a great skin care regimen and lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Fraxel Laser Treatment?

Fraxel® Laser Treatment is a breakthrough aesthetic procedure based on a new science of “Fractional” skin repair.

Fraxel Laser Treatment is a new anti-aging medicine that provides the positive results of skin resurfacing without the downtime and risks associated with traditional abrasive treatment methods.

2. How does Fraxel Laser Treatment work?

Fraxel® Laser Treatment repairs aging and sun-damaged skin – pixel by pixel, spot by spot. Think of a digital photo that is comprised of thousands of pixels. Now, imagine damaged skin that is delicately repaired, pixel by pixel, spot by spot. That’s the principle behind Fraxel Laser Treatment. It’s like Adobe Photoshop® software for your skin. The Fraxel Laser Treatment passes through the top layer of skin like light through glass, reaching into the dermis below to create thousands of tiny, microscopic areas of thermal damage that stimulate the body’s own wound healing response, notably new collagen production and replacement of damaged skin surfaces with new fresh, smoother skin.

The penetrating wavelengths of Fraxel Laser Treatment resurface damaged skin, reduce wrinkles and correct pigmented lesions such as age spots and sun spots. This is all accomplished as your skin becomes softer, smoother and fresher. In contrast to previous facial resurfacing methods, mainly the Abrasive CO2 laser, the Fraxel produces similar skin improvements without the associated risks or downtime.

3. How many treatments are required?

Clinical studies suggest that 3-5 treatments spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart produce a gradual remodeling of dermal matrix components, until complete healing occurs and “good” material that contains collagen and elating replaces old epidermal and dermal tissue.

Over a period of several months, you will notice continual improvement in photo-aged skin correlates with dermal repair and positive skin changes.
