It is important for the surgeon to understand why the patient wants to receive breast augmentation plastic surgery. The right answer to this question can only be provided by the patient herself, and it will help the surgeon to make the most appropriate recommendations. Some of reasons why women want to receive breast implants include:
- To gain a more feminine and attractive figure
- To restore breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss \
- To improve symmetry between the breasts
- To make the breasts more proportionately sized to the rest of the body
- To correct congenital deformities in one or both breasts
- To increase breast size in order to correct micromastia
- To reconstruct one or both breasts following mastectomy
- To improve body image and self-esteem
The candidate should review breast augmentation before and after photos in order to form realistic expectations about what the procedure can or cannot do for her. Experienced cosmetic surgeon Dr. Parker receives patients from Las Vegas and nearby areas.
The patient should have a reasonably good overall health condition in order to undergo breast augmentation. The surgeon will assess the patient’s medical history, previous surgeries if any, order mammograms if needed, and review the breast anatomy and skin elasticity. The patient should properly disclose all relevant health related issues to the surgeon for her own safety.
If the patient is a smoker, or is using certain prescription drugs or herbal supplements, she should make a list of all such items and inform the surgeon. This will help the surgeon to advise appropriate pre- and post-surgical instructions for the patient. The body weight of the patient should ideally be moderate and stable. She should not have any untreated infections or bleeding tendency, and should not be currently pregnant or nursing. She should be free from any cancerous or pre-cancerous breast tissue.
If the patient wants to receive silicone breast implants, she should be above the age of 21, according to the FDA regulations. The same limit also applies to ultra-cohesive gummy bear implants. In case of saline implants, this age limit is relaxed to 18 and above.
As an exception, women below the age of 18 may receive implant surgery to address birth related deformities or breast tissue injuries. Best candidates for breast augmentation surgery are women who have a positive attitude, clear goals, and reasonable expectations.
