\"The<\/a>Recovery in a plastic surgery<\/b> procedure such as liposuction will depend on the nature and extent of surgery, the type of anesthesia used, and the patient\u2019s natural healing ability. Dr. Brian J. Parker<\/a> is a plastic surgeon<\/b> providing safe and effective liposuction surgery to patients. Dr. Parker will try to meet the patient\u2019s aesthetic goals, while keeping safety and predictability of results as the top priority.<\/p>\n

Immediately after the Procedure<\/b><\/h3>\n

Liposuction<\/a> cosmetic surgery <\/b>is usually carried out as an outpatient procedure. However, if general anesthesia is used and the surgery is fairly extensive, an overnight stay may be required. Most surgeons will recommend that the patient should have someone to drive them back home and preferably stay with them for the first night. The procedure may be performed under local anesthesia if the treatment area is small.<\/p>\n

The cosmetic surgeon<\/b><\/a> will usually prescribe antibiotics immediately after the surgery in order to minimize the risk of infection. Mild pain relieving medications may also be prescribed for a few days to keep the patient comfortable during the recovery period. Patients with a history of anemia may need to take iron tablets or supplements. Dr. Parker will provide detailed post-op instructions to his patients to ensure a safe and timely recovery.<\/p>\n

Bandages and Stitches<\/b><\/h3>\n

Following the liposuction plastic surgery<\/b>, the treated area will be wrapped in bandages or an elasticated support corset. This may have to be worn for several weeks following the procedure in order to help reduce swelling and expedite healing. The bandages may be taken out for cleaning and to allow the patient to shower.<\/p>\n

The plastic surgeon <\/b>will advise the patient how long the bandages may have to be worn. The surgeon will also give an appointment for a follow-up visit to have the stitches removed. In most cases, the stitches are removed after a week. Care instructions for the stitches will also be given to the patient.<\/p>\n

Numbness and Bruising<\/b><\/h3>\n

The extent of bruising will depend on the size and number of areas treated. Deeper bruises may last for several months, but the initial pain and discomfort will subside within a few days. Numbness in the treated area may continue for about six to eight weeks in most cases. Any special treatment is usually not necessary for these symptoms of bruising and numbness. Pain relievers such as ibuprofen may be prescribed for a limited period by the surgeon.<\/p>\n

Return to Normalcy<\/b><\/h3>\n

Most patients may be able to resume their regular daily activities or go back to work within a week after liposuction cosmetic surgery<\/b>. If large or multiple areas have been treated, the downtime may last for 10 to 14 days. Heavy lifting and vigorous exercises should be avoided for at least one month, but general movement and walking are allowed in most cases. If the patient notices any signs of infection or abnormal pain, they should get in touch with the surgeon immediately for a follow-up.
