Laser hair removal is a solution to removing unwanted body hair from any specific area. Lasers can disable the follicles so hair will not grow, while avoiding damage to the surrounding skin. This method is more efficient, rapid and safe then any wax or alternative hair removal treatment. It is also more comfortable. Multiple treatments are usually needed, but you will find the results much more efficient than other alternatives.

The Consultation
Your skin and hair type will be determined. Your medical history will be reviewed for any history of skin problems, medications, keloids or scarring, cold sores, etc. Laser hair removal will be explained fully and all of your questions answered. Some patients will need a "test patch" to determine the best laser settings for their skin type. A small area will be treated at varying settings and rechecked up to one week later.

Pre-Procedure
The Procedure
Recovery Period

No plucking, waxing, depilatory or bleaching for 1 week prior to treatment. Please refrain from the previously mentioned methods of hair removal during the laser treatment process; these methods will interfere with the laser treatment and may result requiring more treatments to achieve desired results. Shaving is permitted during laser treatments.

Please remove make-up, deodorants, and lotions in treatment area prior to treatment. Ladies: If you are treating your bikini area please wear white underwear, because the laser is attracted to dark colors.

Shaving is required prior to first treatment.

If you've started any antibiotics or any other medications that may make you photo sensitive, please let us know. We may have to reschedule your appointment. Also notify the RN/Tech if there has been any change in your health status. (new medications, heart condition etc.)

The areas which are to be treated are shaven to remove any length of hair which is exposed past the skin.

Then a special cooling gel and special cold packs are applied to the area. Several minutes are allowed to pass to treat the skin.

The laser is then glided in small lines over the area desired to deaden the hair follicles. You might feel some minor discomfort from the heat of the laser.

Generally, recovery time with laser hair removal is rapid and gentle.

During the first few days after your procedure, your skin might feel some real minor discomfort or redness. Some temporary swelling may occur around the treated areas, and there is some risk of pigmentation disturbance with darker skin types.

The full effect of your treatment develops over a few visits as there at hair follicles which are dormant during the procedure. It will take a few treatments to be able to get all the hair follicles in their non dormant states.

Frequently Asked Questions For Hair Removal

How does the laser remove hair?
The laser emits a beam of light that is attracted to the pigment or melanin in the hair follicle that is in an active growing cycle. A pre-determined pulse duration and energy setting are directed at and absorbed by the hair follicles, disabling the growth of the follicles, resulting in quick, safe and effective hair removal.

What is the advantage of using a laser?
Lasers are precise instruments that can be adjusted to the exact parameters that will specifically disable the hair follicle. The laser uses a wide beam that treats many hairs at once instead of treating hair-by-hair like electrolysis. Because of this, large areas such as your legs, arms, or back can be treated in a short period of time. You will see results that last far longer than tweezing, waxing, shaving, chemical depilation, or other temporary methods.

What does the laser treatment feel like?
The treatment does have a slight prickly or stinging sensation. Most of our clients are able to tolerate the treatment without difficulty. However, since every persons level of sensitivity is different and treatment areas may vary, a topical numbing cream is available.

What happens to the skin after laser treatment?
Reddening of the skin is the desired reaction. The redness usually subsides within a few minutes to a few hours and returns to normal. Since the laser is not invasive in any way, no bandages are necessary. You are able to reapply your make-up, return to work, and continue with your normal daily activities immediately following treatment.

How many laser treatments will I need?
In our experience most of our patients are able to discontinue treatments, with the exception of an occasional touch up, after an average of 5 treatments. This is providing that the treatment schedule is followed as recommended. It is also important to understand results may vary depending on the individual hair type, their stress levels, certain medications and different hormone levels. Because of this, the desired results will vary and may take between 3-10 treatments.

Is laser hair removal permanent?
The FDA will not permit the words “Permanent Hair Removal” to be used. However, it is ok to use the words “Permanent Hair Reduction” because the industry is only about 5 years old. Regardless, based on the results we’ve experienced, we feel it is safe to say the results are going to be permanent enough if you follow the treatment protocol. However, individual treatment results may vary depending on hair type, stress levels, certain medications and different hormone levels. It is possible to experience minimal re-growth in an area previously treated by normally dormant hair, at which time you may want to do an occasional touch up.

What to expect after laser treatment?
After your initial treatment, you should enjoy a significant reduction of hair. However, it will take 2-4 weeks for the treated hair to push its way to the surface and fall out. With each treatment, the hair in the active growing phase will be effectively treated. A follow up appointment is scheduled in 4-8 weeks after each treatment. Keeping in mind the importance of maintaining your follow up appointments.

What if I have gray, white, blonde, red or light fine hair?
Since the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle, this hair type or hair color may not be treated with the laser. If this is your case call your nearest clinic, they may have the treatment you are seeking at their site.
