The Consultation
A consultation is usually around thirty to forty-five minutes long, and is usually an exchange of information between the Doctor and the patient. Dr. Parker is a very understanding and caring doctor who will put you at ease and help you make an informed final decision. Your ultimate happiness with your decision is his number one goal. You may wish to bring in photos from publications to demonstrate desired look and size.

The Doctor will need to obtain a pertinent medical history, family history, medication history, allergy history, and also to define the general goals and expectations of the patient. The patient will walk away a complete understand of the surgery and process.

Pre-Procedure
The Procedure
Recovery Period

Scheduling surgery involves payment of a non refundable deposit, as there are costs involved with preparing for your operation, and for holding the time. A period of at least two weeks off any medications containing aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, or other medications which could adversely affect the ability of the blood clotting mechanism, is required to prevent any bleeding complications.

At the time surgery is scheduled, a preoperative visit is also scheduled for one to two weeks prior to the date of the operation. In women aged 30 and older, a baseline mammogram needs to be obtained prior to surgery. At this visit, a consent to operation is signed. The size of the implants to be used is finalized. Photographs are taken. A directed physical exam is carried out. All questions relating to the surgery are answered in detail. We will advise you which bra to purchase for your recovery. The surgical fee is due in full at this time. Arrangements should be made for transportation for the day of surgery and for the first postoperative visit (usually two or three days after surgery).

The operation usually requires 1 hour of operating time. General anesthesia is the route that is used. This involves a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist providing a brief but complete general anesthetic, which provides for the greatest degree of comfort during the operation. In fact, with general anesthesia one is completely unaware of the experience and feels absolutely no pain whatsoever. Dr. Parker administers intercostal nerve blocks during the procedure which numbs your chest with a long lasting local anesthetic, to provide you with pain relief post-operatively. At the conclusion of the procedure you will be placed into a bra. The recovery room stay is approximately one hour.Because of the use of sedative medications, it is absolutely essential that a responsible adult escort be available to transport the patient to and from the operation, and be available for the first 24 hours. During that time, the caretaker person will assist the patient in getting up to the bathroom, taking medications, and eating and drinking. It is best to stay in bed for the first 12 - 18 hours following surgery, and to limit intake to liquids.

You need to anticipate some discomfort until the serum level of the narcotic pain medication reaches a therapeutic threshold. This usually takes a double dose of the pain pills for the first two to three doses, after which a single dose is sufficient to maintain control of the pain. Antibiotics, which are begun the day prior to operation, are continued for four days after the procedure to lower the risk of infection.

Activity should be restricted to no lifting, pushing, pulling or driving for 48 hours. It is not advisable to drive a motor vehicle until one is completely off of narcotic pain medication and there is no restriction of upper extremity mobility, such as may be required in an avoidance maneuver with a car.
